Believing that ‘trust is the foundation of great service’, Jones FM is a value-driven project powerhouse
A renowned name in the commercial construction sector, few companies deliver FM excellence like Jones FM. Since its founding 13 years ago, the company has garnered a market leading reputation built on professionalism, reliability and exceptional project delivery. Offering a comprehensive scope of services, Jones FM’s capabilities cover everything from building maintenance, M&E installations, fit outs, energy management and full statutory compliance.
Construction & Civil Engineering sits down with JJ Jones, Operations Director at Jones FM, to learn more about the company’s defining values and how they are projecting the company into a prosperous future. JJ begins our conversation by sharing some insight into Jones FM’s journey thus far.
“The business was founded in 2007, initially as two divisions: Jones Interior & Exterior and Jones Facilities Management,” JJ shares. “We were mainly a project-based business but got an opportunity to step into the FM market when we won a building contract in Kings Cross, which then led to three more building projects. In 2012, we merged the two divisions into one company as Jones FM and from that point onwards, we’ve predominately been an M&E business. For the first seven-to-eight years, much of our business was through word of mouth. Since then, we’ve seen double digit percentage growth, year on year.
Prioritising partnerships
“Today, we’re mainly an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health) business. We look after the full statutory compliance of buildings, whether that’s a complete building, landlord business system, full HVAC, or a kitchen tap within a demise floor. Within the projects division, we can do anything from minor works to a full floor fit-out. We also have a big energy division with an energy management system that we can run alongside landlord contracts if the clients are interested.”
Now, as it approaches 20 years in business, Jones FM continues to go from strength to strength, championing its strong people-centric ethos in the pursuit of FM/M&E excellence. With its expertise touching all corners of construction, Jones FM has successfully delivered projects for some of the world’s biggest names, including The Blackstone Group, The Office Group, Helix, Lambert Smith Hampton and many more. Passionate about exceeding expectations, the company has established a set of five core values that drive its culture and success. Each letter of the Jones name equates to one of the business’ core values: joint venture, open and transparent, nurturing, ESG, and service.
“Establishing those values was a big thing for us. We rolled them out in 2019/2020 to give us a clearer direction for what we were trying to achieve, and that’s when the growth of the business really took off,” JJ elaborates.
Everything that Jones FM does is governed by these core values. Its first value, joint venture, represents the value it holds with its longstanding partnerships. Perhaps one of the most notable amongst those is the company’s partnership with Chiswick Park, which has been ongoing since 2013.
“Chiswick Park is probably our longest standing partnership,” JJ says. “We started the contract in 2013, then re-tendered in 2016, 2020, and again in 2024. By the time the current contract will be up for renewal again, it will have been a 17-year partnership, which is quite rare nowadays.”
Jones FM’s secret to maintaining these longstanding partnerships ties in directly with its second value, open and transparent. One of the qualities that runs deeply within Jones FM’s culture is its commitment to openness and transparency, whether that’s in communicating its goals and expectations with its clients and team members or remaining candid about project budgets and timelines.
“It’s all about aligning your goals,” JJ explains. “We work very closely with our clients early on to really understand what goals they’re trying to achieve. We set benchmarks for the team to meet, which are then regularly reviewed throughout the term.”
This exceptional standard of care and integrity extends beyond Jones FM’s projects and partnerships. The company prides itself on its strong community engagement and CSR initiatives – a strong representation of its third value, nurturing.
“For us, nurturing has been a key value with our current staff, and payroll number one still works for us now. Our operation delivery team have all progressed from within the business whether that be as an engineer, admin or fabric employee. They understood what the company wanted to achieve and now train managers and engineers beneath them in the five key values that allowed them to succeed. This way all employees understand us and what we want to deliver to our clients which goes a long way to us achieving such a high staff retention rate.
Growth trajectory
“We do a lot of charity work, mainly with North Kent Mind. For example, 23 of us, along with some of our clients and contractors, have recently completed a triathlon down on the Jurassic Coast for our chosen charity North Kent Mind. In 2022, we also achieved ISO 45003 accreditation, which was great,” JJ continues. “In addition, we regularly engage with local schools; we often work alongside Chiswick Park doing mock interviews with a local school for their year nine, ten and 11 pupils to help them prepare for their next stages of life.”
Jones FM’s determination to build a better world is also the driving force behind its fourth value, ESG. Sustainability is more than just a buzzword for Jones FM – it’s a priority. With several ISO accreditations under its belt, including ISO 50001, the company has invested heavily in minimising its environmental impact, implementing an energy management system that helps to monitor usage and adjust where necessary – which has been incredibly rewarding.
“Rolling out the energy management system in 2021 has been so positive for us and our clients. It has allowed us to challenge the BMS to understand full plant scheduling and optimisation. The savings that we’ve been able to make as a result are what drove us to win a Positive Climate Action Award, among many others,” JJ adds.
Of course, what truly defines Jones FM above all else is its reputation for providing exceptional service – its final value. As we enter the latter half of 2025, it’s clear that Jones FM is well-positioned for a bright future filled with more exciting projects and collaborations.
“We’re going to remain focused on staying ahead of the curve. Our strategy for the next few months will be on continuing to provide the five-star service that we’re known for and making sure that our staff continue learning from us and our values. We’ve become a reputable FM and M&E business in London and the UK, so the main thing for us is continuing to uphold that status with both our new and existing clients, making sure that everything we’ve built over the last 13 years is able to move forward with a projection of double-digit growth,” JJ concludes.
