Contract valued in excess of £1 billion
On behalf of the Battersea Power Station shareholders, Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) – the sitedevelopment manager – has confirmed the selection of Bouygues UK as the preferred contractor for the design and build contract for Phase 3 of the Battersea Power Station project.
The final construction contract will have a value in excess of £1bn, making it one of the largest private building contracts ever to be awarded. Works are due to start on site in early 2016, alongside the on-going construction of Circus West (Phase 1) and the regeneration of the Power Station itself (Phase 2).
Phase 3 is a key part of the regeneration of the Battersea project, and features a new pedestrianised high street for London, known as The Electric Boulevard. The boulevard will be the main gateway to the entire Battersea development, connecting the Northern Line Extension station to the south of the site with the Power Station itself.
To the west of the high street lies Foster + Partners’ long sinuous ‘Battersea Roof Gardens’ building that will include new homes, a hotel and one of the largest roof gardens in the capital. To the east is Gehry Partners’, ‘Prospect Place,’ a collection of five buildings each with striking sculptural façades inspired by London’s famous John Nash Regency terraces and, beyond those, Prospect Park that houses a new community centre and children’s playground.
