Fleet investment a row of Ford Transit Courier vans

In early 2025, Shareridge was delighted to announce the arrival of 30 brand-new Ford Courier vans to further benefit the team, the business and the environment. “These newer vans come with the latest emission standards, which helps in reducing the company’s carbon footprint,” shares Thomas Hynes, Plant and Fleet Manager. “This means we’re taking a big step towards lowering our environmental impact. These vans are designed to meet the latest emission standards, ensuring our continued growth has sustainability at its core.”

Refreshing the fleet makes perfect sense. Thomas explains that newer vehicles lead to lower maintenance costs and greater fuel efficiency: “By investing in these new vans, we’re cutting down on those ongoing costs, allowing us to reinvest savings back into our projects. All these new vehicles come equipped with the latest safety technology, offering enhanced protection on the road. This technology helps reduce the chances of accidents, ensuring that our team can continue to work safely and confidently.

“Reliability is also a major factor in our decision. Newer vans are simply more dependable, which reduces downtime. In our line of work, staying on schedule is crucial, and having a fleet we can rely on helps us to continue to meet our deadlines without unnecessary delays. The continued development and investment in our fleet is a strategic move that enhances our efficiency, reduces our carbon footprint, and prioritises the safety and reliability that our work demands.”

As part of its work for Uisce Éireann, Shareridge has recently complete the next phase of East Meath’s Windmill Hill Reservoir and trunk watermain to Ratoath project. This significant project, commissioned by Irish Water in collaboration with Meath County Council, aimed to enhance the water infrastructure in the region.

The primary goal was to quadruple the storage capacity at Windmill Hill Reservoir and replace the outdated watermain connecting the reservoir to Ratoath village. This involved upgrading over seven kilometres of old and problematic watermains, which have been prone to frequent bursts and have caused numerous water supply disruptions for residents in Ratoath, Kilbride, and Ashbourne.

The new watermains was constructed using high-density polyethylene pipes. This upgrade is expected to not only reduce the incidence of bursts but also address issues of low water pressure, particularly in Ratoath during peak demand periods.

Works also includes the construction of a new 4,700m3 capacity reservoir and new secondary chlorine dosing systems along site trunk main upgrade.

To support operations, Shareridge has invested hugely in health and safety over the years. Investment in people, systems and strategies ensures that the company is continuously striving to improve safety on all sites. The company’s commitment to safety is reflected in its ISO 45001 certification and A grade in Safe-T Cert.

Work safe, home safe

Shareridge has also implemented software to capture live data and dashboards, such as inspections, observations, permits, and training, enabling it to go paperless. Its focus on safety has led to a continuous decline in Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) over the past five years.

The company has also won four National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) higher distinction awards and arranges an annual company-wide two-day safety and wellbeing event that brings the workforce together across the county to meet with the company’s Board of Directors and various guest speakers to focus on all things HSQE and wellbeing. The two days include workshops, scenario-based learning sessions, awards to employees and overall connection and unity.

Shareridge delivers a consistent high-quality standard of work, and its employees and teams are committed to ensuring health, safety, and wellbeing are paramount in the business, adhering daily to its “work safe home safe” motto.
