Holcim and Fuelre4m Lead UK’s Biggest Clean Fuel RolloutSubscribe to our free newsletter today to keep up to date with the latest construction and civil engineering news.In a defining move for the construction industry, Holcim UK has partnered with clean energy innovator Fuelre4m to deploy the largest fuel reforming technology rollout in British construction. This collaboration will see more than 200 Holcim sites adopt Fuelre4m’s Re4mx system, a clean fuel solution designed to reduce diesel consumption and emissions without modifying engines or disrupting operations. The construction sector, historically reliant on carbon-intensive fuels, faces increasing pressure to decarbonise. Scope 1 emissions, those generated directly by company operations, remain a major challenge due to widespread diesel use in equipment and transport. Holcim’s initiative tackles this issue while also addressing Scope 3 emissions linked to logistics. By integrating clean fuel technology at scale, the company is positioning itself not just as a participant in the UK’s net-zero agenda, but as a leader. The promise of Re4mx: Innovation in fuel reforming technologyFuelre4m’s Re4mx technology provides a practical solution for reducing emissions in fuel-dependent sectors. The system works with existing engines, introducing catalytic chemistry into the fuel stream to optimise combustion and reduce particulate and CO₂ emissions.Field deployments have shown promising results. Holcim sites have recorded up to 20 percent reductions in fuel use and 23 percent fewer emissions. These gains were achieved without operational disruption.Installation requires just a few hours and does not interfere with site activities. The solution is also fuel-agnostic, compatible with a range of hydrocarbons, and helps prolong engine life by reducing carbon build-up. This positions Re4mx as a cost-effective and scalable emissions strategy across diverse industrial settings.Using AI and blockchain for traceable progressA core component of the rollout is the AI-enabled dashboard, designed to track emissions and performance metrics in real time. This allows Holcim’s teams to monitor results, identify trends, and optimise performance site by site. The use of blockchain reinforces data integrity, recording every litre of treated fuel and every tonne of avoided emissions on a secure ledger. This system strengthens ESG reporting by offering verifiable evidence and audit-ready emissions data.Rolling out at over 200 Holcim UK sitesHolcim’s commitment to install Re4mx at more than 200 operational sites marks a significant leap in sustainable construction. From quarries to logistics centres, each site is being integrated into a digitally unified network contributing to company-wide environmental goals. The deployment is structured in phases, beginning with high-fuel-use locations. Each installation feeds into a broader data ecosystem, enabling performance tracking at both the site and group levels. The Holcim-Fuelre4m partnership reflects a shift in how the construction sector approaches carbon reduction. No longer confined to pilots or policy papers, emissions strategies are now embedded in daily operations. Verified reductions, fuel savings, and digital audit trails support regulatory compliance.Sources: Holcim UK press release 17 June 202517 June 2025 sarahrudge UK, Construction, Sustainability 3 min read SustainabilityNews
