How Kingsheath Construction is becoming one of Kent’s fastest growing companies

Established just six years ago in October 2018, Kingsheath Construction has grown to be a leading groundworks, civil engineering, and reinforced concrete frame contractor for the construction sector across Kent and Essex in England. With the expertise, experience, and resource required to excel, the business prides itself on delivering finished products that exceed customer expectations.

“We’re based in brand-new offices in Bredhurst, near Maidstone in Kent, and we operate in Kent and Essex, working for major housebuilders across the region,” opens Jamie Pike, Managing Director. “Our specialist areas consist of residential groundworks, infrastructure, civil engineering, reinforced concrete frames, and off-site highway works. We also have an in-house plant department, which is growing year-on-year, to service our construction arm of the business.”

With specialist knowledge on demolition, Kingsheath Construction offers a full demolition package for commercial, industrial, and residential projects, from minor works to demolition of housing contracts and large commercial units. Such packages include site clearance, soft stripping works, stripping out works, and asbestos removal, as well as the continuation of works post demolition like clearance and remediation.

When it comes to remediation, the business offers a full range of site investigation, land remediation, and ground engineering solutions to ensure contaminated sites are compliant in a timely and exemplary standard. Although the service is tailored to each project, most packages include site investigations, risk assessments, volumetric analysis, and remediation strategies.

Recognising that many of its clients work on greenfield sites, Kingsheath Construction uses modern specialist equipment to carry out earthworks and associated activities and is constantly reviewing methods to ensure maximum value. The full range of services includes bulk earthworks, cut and fill, testing, stabilisation, excavation, material processing and handling, waste management, and ground investigation.

Alongside these services, groundworks remain at the core function of Kingsheath Construction’s operations. Whether continuing from demolition and enabling works or undertaking a new build project, the business can apply its experience in all types of foundations and piling methods.

Across its portfolio of services, the business prioritises the health, safety, and wellbeing of its employees. Each employee is individually assessed to establish specific training requirements and as a result, the entire workforce is registered with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and all plant operators possess either CPCS or NPORS qualifications in their respective categories.

“Our latest schemes consist of more than 400 units for customers like Bellway, Barratt Homes, and Redrow, for example,” Jamie explains. “Our biggest current projects are: 456 units in The Woodlands on behalf of Barratt Homes; 240 units for Redrow Homes’ Oakleigh Fields development in Kent; and 450 units at Oxenden Park for Bellway Homes. We’ve also recently secured our first project with Vistry, who were previously named Large Housebuilder of the Year at the Housebuilder Awards. We’re thrilled to broaden our client base with exciting opportunities and new customers like Vistry.”

Robust relationships

In recognition of Kingsheath Construction’s expansion, the company achieved the status of being Kent’s third-fastest growing company. Reflecting on this event, Jamie says: “A key client base with repeat work has always been our fundamental principle behind growing a successful company. We have built an excellent reputation, exemplified by the fact that we’ve retained all our original clients, as well as, of course, picking up new customers along the way.”

This approach extends to the company’s supply network too. “Without our supply chain, we wouldn’t be able to operate in the way we do,” Jamie states. “As with our clients, we’ve retained a similar supply chain since our inception. Building and maintaining these relationships enables us to get the best possible service required to sustain our workload and high standards. Of course, this approach is applicable to our own workforce too, as they are the ones who ensure smooth project delivery.”

Aside from its client base, Kingsheath Construction also recognises the importance of its fleet in ensuring project success. “Expanding our fleet of equipment is always a priority, not only to keep up with modern technology and ensure we’re using the most efficient machinery, but also to reduce both our running costs and environmental impact,” Jamie proposes. “For these reasons, we plan to make further investments in our plant and equipment over the coming years.

“Most recently, we’ve invested in a vacuum excavator to allow for the safe excavation of pits around live services. This minimises the hazards involved when working around live services and frees up our excavators and workforce to continue working in other areas. We’ve also invested in a fleet of new cabbed dumpers, which are more efficient and safer than our previous fleet. To ensure our staff are confident in using our new and existing machinery, we’re also investing in extensive training to support and upskill our labour force.”

With a mutual focus on maintaining quality, Kingsheath Construction is sure to continue its current growth trajectory. When asked about the future of the company, Jamie concludes: “We have a very healthy order book for the remainder of 2024, and we’re looking forward to continuing negotiations and working with some new clients. In terms of figures, our goal for 2024 is £50 million turnover, and we hope to increase this further to £60 million in 2025. We expect continued growth and investment beyond 2025, as we’ll look to expand our services and reach new regions in the South East of England.”
