Protection from the elements

A high quality application of Sika protective coatings has helped to breathe new life into two ageingand historically significant concrete tower blocks in central London, ensuring they will remain protected from the elements long into the future.

On Cruikshank Street in Finsbury, London, the Grade II Listed Bevin Court council housing block was built on the site of the bombdestroyed Holford Square in 1954. Featuring 112 dwellings across seven floors, its 60-year-old concrete exterior required a new protective coating to repair and prevent aesthetic and structural damage.

As the neighbouring Holford House was also showing signs of a damaged façade, Sika was appointed to supply a comprehensive and high performance repair system. To protect the building and extend its life, the specification included the anti-carbonation coating SikaGard- 550W and the translucent weather-resistant SikaGard-680S Clearglaze.
