Swain Group acquisition

Kent headquartered construction Transport and Logistics specialist, The Swain Group has purchased the shares, which include the assets, vehicles, workshops and business of Jeffrey’s Haulage Co Ltd.

Jeffrey’s currently operates from a purpose built 16.5 acre site located in Woodville, Derbyshire housing an impressive 105,000 sq ft racked warehouse, 23,000 sq ft custom built transport operations, workshop, and administration block. The vehicle fleet comprises 32 tractor units, 60 trailers and 4 x 18T Rigids engaged in curtain-side distribution.

Swain will be retaining the Jeffrey’s Haulage name and it will operate as a standalone company within the Group as part of its Logistics Division. Fred Perkin will remain with the business as Managing Director of Jeffrey’s Haulage.

Paul Kavanagh, Swain Group MD commented: “This is a good acquisition that fits with the company strategy to acquire businesses operating in appropriate growth sectors. The Jeffrey’s operation will complement our existing depot structure, further strengthening our position in the Midlands. It will also enable us to deliver value through a combined General haulage and Tautliner operation in Swadlincote on one site.”

Fred Perkin said: “We’re confident that the sale of the business will further enhance the ongoing development within the company to achieve and maintain quality standards for the services we provide. R. Swain & Sons match a desire and enthusiasm to be the best at what we do.”

This acquisition demonstrates its continued commitment to the investing in the business and developing a structure that supports further diversification. The company bolstered its Special Projects division last autumn with the purchase of Air and Rail side construction logistics specialist Gatwick Plant. This complements the purchase of Heavy Haulage and plant movement company Hallett Silbermann in 2014. Both companies continue to operate under their individual brands, synonymous with high quality operations in their respective fields.
