The Wring Group’s choice of suppliers is very important to the company. It has very strong and longstanding agreements with all of its suppliers. This is an advantage for the company because its suppliers have both good communication links with The Wring Group and an unrivalled knowledge of all the services and materials the company requires. Over time, The Wring Group has developed good relationships with its suppliers ensuring it is receiving the best service available on the market.
Demolition work involves many of the hazards associated with construction. However, demolition incurs additional hazards due to unknown factors such as: deviations from the structure’s design introduced during construction, approved or unapproved modifications that altered the original design, materials hidden within structural members, and unknown strengths or weaknesses of construction materials. To counter these unknowns, all personnel involved in a demolition project must be fully aware of these types of hazards and the safety precautions to take to control the hazards.
As a result, the Wring Group focuses heavily on health, safety, the environment and quality (HSEQ), which is key to ensuring that practical activities are married in to sound policies and safe systems of work. The global sustainable development agenda to recycle, reclaim and re-use demolition materials is also an important issue to the company. Crushed aggregates, reclaimed brick, timber, tiles and slates are just some of the materials offered direct from the Wring Group. Equally, the setting of targets to reduce energy consumption and increase pollution prevention will bring cost benefits and enhance the company’s standing. The organisation recycles at least 97 per cent of all demolition rubble through on-site crushing and screening plants. All such materials are offered for sale or re-use on site.
Wring group also recycle over 80 per cent of all other materials that are generated by their work.
The importance of a good and efficient safety policy is essential to The Wring Group. The company believes in providing safe systems of work and the maintenance of an effective safety culture. The group’s director of safety, safety manager and external consultants are tasked with formulating all safety procedures and policing their implementation. As members of the Bristol Safety Council, The Wring Group has achieved National Safety Awards and has embraced the council’s ethos on its standard setting within the five star Health and Safety Management Award Auditing Scheme.
Through high levels of HSEQ, The Wring Group has grown significantly over the past few years. The company believes that the main secret to its success is down to constant hard work throughout the whole company. Each and every employee is 100 per cent committed to providing clients with the best service available on the market. To further enhance the performance of the company, The Wring Group provides constant training to its whole workforce therefore raising its level of customer service. The company’s program of continuous improvement to staff learning and their ability to adapt to changing work environments is key to investing in the future of the group. Personnel are given instruction, information and training to meet industry wide standards in line with the Construction Skills Certifications Scheme (CSCS), the National Demolition Training Group, theConstruction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) and the Major Contractors Group (MCG). As a progressive and forward thinking company, The Wring Group actively encourages enthusiastic candidates to apply for job opportunities as soon as they arise and due to its recent expansion program, the company is currently recruiting many new employees and therefore training is especially important.
The managing director, John Wring will become the president of The National Federation of DemolitionContractors in March and again can see this position as an opportunity to promote the industry to convince all clients that NFDC corporate members are the way forward in terms of safety, project planning, training, and indeed innovative methodology.
The demolition industry is very buoyant at the moment and there are many opportunities for further growth for The Wring Group into the future. Its long-term vision is to become one of the biggest demolition companies in the UK, but still being able to provide a personal service, in terms of attention to detail. To achieve this the company will continue with its philosophy of ‘hard work’ right across the board. The Wring Group is currently being filmed by the BBC for a fly-on-the-wall documentary to be aired in April 2007. This will improve the company’s recognition within the market therefore increasing its profile with new and existing clients.
