With a strong reputation for quality and service, AD Construction Group is securing repeat business
Offering an extensive geographical coverage spanning London, the Home Counties, and the Isle of Wight, AD Construction Group Ltd (AD Construction) is one of the UK’s leading privately-owned, public-sector providers of property refurbishment services. Working primarily as a public sector partner, the company undertakes a range of building works for both residential properties and public buildings.
The company provides these services to clients and their residents via bespoke contracts, long-term partnership agreements, DPS, and frameworks, and most of its services fit into one of three streams: planned maintenance, fire safety, and energy efficiency improvements. From painting and decorating to installing air source heat pumps, the company works closely with customers to formulate intelligent and innovative solutions that meet individual requirements.
To learn more about the business and its evolution, we speak with Aaron Mitchell, Managing Director. “AD Construction was established in 1944 as a planned maintenance contractor and has since grown to reach a turnover of around £70 million,” Aaron begins. “During this time, we’ve seen the work diversify from cyclical decorations to several retrofit and fire safety projects. We still offer maintenance work, and our services include cladding, roofing, property rewires, loft insulation, external and internal wall insulation, ventilation, window repairs and installations, full kitchen and bathroom updates, and the installation of air source heat pumps.
“We’ve experienced particular growth over the last year or so due to increased work from our current clients. Although it’s a difficult time for the public sector industry and many of our clients have got very tight budgets, we truly understand our customers’ concerns and have still managed to grow through these challenges by prioritizing quality, service, and value.”
A key part of AD Construction’s performance strategy is ensuring a positive experience for not only customers, but also for residents. The company’s customer support representatives strive to minimise disruption, provide additional support, and ensure specific considerations are met throughout the duration of a project.
Aaron elaborates: “We’ve recently tweaked the ways in which we run and manage our customer support team, and our customer satisfaction has gone up as a result. By constantly evaluating trends and analysing the best methods of communication, we maintain a top-quality service that prioritises residents.”
AD Construction’s approach to service and communication also extends to relationships with its supply network, as Aaron explains. “We’ve worked with many of our suppliers for over 20 years, and we strive to involve our supply chain early in the process. This enables us to set out our goals and objectives for an upcoming project and ensure that our suppliers are on the same page with realistic expectations.”
With energy efficiency and sustainability becoming key areas for many housing associations across the UK, AD Construction is also working to minimise its environmental footprint. “We’ve installed loads of chargers at our site to enable our management staff to drive electric vehicles (EVs),” Aaron reveals. “We’ve also retrofitted the office to ensure we’re utilizing the best insulation and highly efficient systems, and we also installed PV panels on the site’s roof. In recent years, we’ve made great improvements in our social value offering by supporting local businesses, offering education opportunities and apprenticeships, and sponsoring community events.”
Aside from sustainable improvements, the business is concentrating on remaining agile and responsive to market demands. “We’ve focused on strengthening our internal systems and improving our performance to ensure we can cope with upcoming demand, particularly as we’re continuing to see increased work from our current clients,” Aaron shares. “There are some key members of the management team that have been instrumental to our success; we’ve brought a Commercial Director onboard and our Operations Director, James Ellis, is making a huge stamp on the company.
“From a health and safety perspective, our Health and Safety Director, Richard Gordon, does a great job of ensuring our sites are safe places to work. Most of the time, you find that a safe site is also a well organised and well managed one, leading to both a positive working environment and greater on-site efficiency.”
As our conversation draws to a close, we ask Aaron what the future holds for AD Construction. “2025 looks busy for us with lots of upcoming projects,” he says. “When it comes to thinking about the future, we focus on the next project and securing a pipeline for the next year or so, as our work further afield will largely depend on what happens in the UK’s economy. While I have ambitions to achieve five-to-ten per cent growth year-on-year, which would take us to £100 million revenue in the next five years, I’m mindful not to grow too quickly as I want AD Construction to maintain our strong reputation for quality and service.
“There’s an interesting challenge facing housing associations in our current landscape; organisations have tight budgets but huge amounts of work to do in terms of damp and mould, fire safety, and underperforming energy efficiency. We try not to get too carried away as we can’t control these external factors, so we focus on ensuring we’re in the strongest position possible to cope with demand as and when it comes,” Aaron concludes.
Despite these challenges, AD Construction’s core values of quality and service remain strong. Combined with Aaron’s leadership, an emphasis on company culture, and a commitment to the wider community, the business is sure to continue its successful trajectory in 2025 and beyond.
