With expertise in everything from acoustics to air conditioning, G&H Group offers comprehensive construction solutions like no other

Complete MEP service provider, G&H Group, provides comprehensive construction support through its five complementary divisions. At G&H Group, building services, projects, maintenance, engineering services, and air conditioning all come together under one name and one unified community. The company has been a mainstay of the UK construction industry for over 25 years, as Group Director, Marc Ambler, details: “We’re a mechanical, electrical, and public health provider. Founded in 1998, the business started out as a two-man operation, working primarily as a pipework subcontractor under the name ‘G&H Pipe Services’. Since then, the company has grown, under the leadership of Chairman, Graham Kelly.

“Graham has been able to turn G&H into a multi-million-pound business that employs over 180 members of staff. Our experienced team of experts take on theindustrial air conditioning units design, management, delivery and maintenance of every aspect of MEP schemes, with the needs of main contractors and end users across both the public and private sector in mind. Our offering is very diverse, so we also have clients in the residential, commercial, retail, educational, industrial, leisure, and health markets.”

In 2023, G&H Group celebrated its 25th anniversary with a record turnover of £60 million. Sustainability, community, and a people-centric approach helped secure the company’s recent successes, as Marc affirms: “A growing number of our clients and prospects benefit from our integrated, full-service offering. We offer a unique service in that we can manage the entire MEP process, from initial design and prefabrication to installation and ongoing maintenance. This means we’re involved from the very beginning of the project, right through construction, and even after completion.

“Reducing carbon emissions and saving energy is an integral part of our client’s mission when undertaking projects with us. At the heart of our work is the inclusion of sustainable, low carbon features – to the point that these elements have become standard practice for any project we undertake. We use a wide range of renewable technologies and off-site manufacturing in our work, to support contractors working toward net-zero targets.

“Additionally, our team has established long-standing, sturdy relationships with contractors. We place great value on our investment in technology to support those partnerships. We also take great care throughout the recruitment process, to ensure we have people on our team who share these values and will maintain those all-important client relationships.

“Strategic recruitment has also allowed us to develop our workforce and social value strategy. That includes investment in our people, as well as local communities. All these factors have helped G&H Group secure higher value contracts from both new and existing clients.”

Extensive expertise

Guiding G&H Group through recent successes and significant expansion is its all-new senior leadership team. Marc was among a handful of G&H Group veterans who recently stepped up and took the reins of upper management, as he discusses: “We recently undertook a management restructure to support the company’s future growth plans. Pre-Construction Director, David Davis and Commercial Director, Mark Craven increased their shareholding in the company and I was promoted to Group Director.

Holding a series of roles across the group has helped me to develop a deep understanding of all areas and divisions. In my time here, I’ve worked as Project Manager, Projects Division Manager, and Operations Manager. These promotions, along with additional training, have provided me with a good grounding and prepared me for the transition to Group Director. It’s a bit of a step up, and although it’s been challenging at times, with the support and guidance of the other senior leaders, I have been able to embrace the role wholeheartedly.”

With knowledgeable managers who understand all facets of the group structure, G&H Group can provide complete construction services across a vast array of applications. All the companies within the group operate together as one ecosystem, Marc reveals: “Our Building Services Division project manages the design, build, and installation of sustainable-led MEP services that every building needs to operate safely and comfortably. We work with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, often cross-departmentally, to achieve the best possible end result. Additionally, we have expertise in gas, electricity, and renewable power supplies, meaning we can offer a range of options to our clients.

“Our building services are comprehensive, so we can provide support in a variety of additional areas. These include water, drainage, and plumbing; energy management systems; refrigeration; acoustics; and communications, security, and safety systems. Basically, whatever our client needs, we can provide.

“Similarly, our Projects Division is focused on delivering independent mechanical and electrical public health (MEP) services for schemes typically valued between £50,000 and £1 million. Working directly for end users and building and energy consultants, we can also operate as a principal contractor delivering full scope turnkey new build and retrofit solutions. We have extensive experience delivering projects for education facilities such as schools, colleges, and multi-academy trusts.

“Our maintenance service provides strategic, pre-planned preventative maintenance and emergency reactive solutions to clients looking to ensure optimum building performance and compliance.

“We also have a dedicated Engineering Services Division, which provides specialist off-site prefabrication of all mechanical building services equipment. These services are complemented by our full electrical process engineering facility. The 18,500-square-foot site provides the perfect environment for us to design, create, and test bespoke products before distributing them directly to the site.

“Finally, we have our highly specialised Air Conditioning Division. With Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Dakin partner approved status, this department project manages the design, build and installation of all air conditioning services for buildings of all types.

“All elements of the group work together in unison. We’re a family run business and prioritise our colleagues’ safety and wellbeing above all else. We’re also driven to create opportunities for young people, and to support our clients in reaching their net-zero targets. It’s this culture that consistently sets us apart from our competitors.”

With 25 years of success under its belt, and hot off the heels of one of its biggest years on record, G&H Group has big plans. “Through the implementation of our robust business strategy, we will achieve further growth with a greater proportion of our work focused on the reduction in energy usage. Over the next five years, and beyond, we will remain a family business with our three key pillars staying front and centre – sustainability, staff wellbeing, and investment in the community,” Marc concludes.
